Please consider joining the wonderful Outreach Committee at Christ Church! This is a dedicated group of people who meet regularly to discuss the most meaningful ways to distribute funds throughout the surrounding communities for those who are in need; and also to plan projects in which to engage our hearts and hands for ministry of God in the world.
The Homeless Project
As a Lenten Project, the Outreach Committee urges us to contribute as we are able (new and very gently used items are welcome, as well as cash/gift card donations) . Please bring your donations to the parish house on any Sunday morning beginning February 18 or contact Judi DeMello (774 644 2421 or 508 324 1519 or firstname.lastname@example.org) to arrange pickup.
The Homeless Project is an initiative created by United Neighbors of Fall River to offer free household goods for kitchen, bath and bedroom/bedding for families and individuals needing to make a fresh start due to previous homelessness, fire, or other event that has disrupted their housing and often resulted in a complete loss of household goods. To address this need, The Homeless Project developed a “store” (currently located in donated space at the First Baptist Church 228 North Main St (across from the YMCA) in Fall River) which offers an array of donated household goods—pots, pans, plastic food storage containers, eating and cooking utensils, SMALL (toasters, toaster oven, blender, coffee pot, can opener etc) appliances, towels, bedding, curtains, household cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene products. They also offer a very limited supply of non perishable food items.
The program anticipates a particularly great need in the coming weeks and months as an anticipated influx of families from Puerto Rico who were displaced by Hurricane Maria, relocate to Massachusetts. The Fall River area, with its growing Latino population and relatively affordable housing, will be called upon to assist many of them.
If you know of anyone who may benefit from this program, individuals who wish to shop can contact volunteer coordinator Yansie Fontanez at 508 496 8010 to arrange a time.
